Is it really free?
Yes. Muni is free and open source (MIT) — no purchase, no subscription, no trial. The only cost is your own usage of the two services it connects to (Deepgram and Groq), which is usually just pennies. New Deepgram accounts even start with $200 in free credit, so most people run free for a long time. If Muni saves you time, a donation or a star on GitHub is the best way to support it.
What are Deepgram and Groq, and why do I need them?
They’re the two services Muni runs on: Deepgram turns your speech into text, and Groq cleans it into clear instructions. You connect your own free accounts, so your voice goes straight from your Mac to your services. Muni never handles it. Both are free to start.
Do I need to know how to code to set it up?
No. The first time you open Muni, it walks you through making the two accounts and pasting in your keys. About 5 minutes, no coding required.
Groq won’t let me upgrade to pay-as-you-go?
If Groq says Developer (pay-as-you-go) upgrades are temporarily unavailable, try creating your Groq account with GitHub or a non-Gmail email.
What languages does it support?
English, Tagalog, and Taglish — you can even switch between English and Tagalog mid-sentence. Speak naturally and Muni writes it down clean in the language you spoke.
Is my voice private?
Your audio goes straight from your Mac to your own Deepgram and Groq accounts. We never see it or store it.
What do I need to run Muni?
An Apple Silicon Mac (M1 or newer) on macOS Sonoma (14) or later, plus an internet connection. The transcription and cleanup run in the cloud through your accounts.
Does Muni work on Intel Macs?
No. Muni is Apple Silicon only: it runs on Apple Silicon Macs (M1 or newer). Intel Macs are not supported.
Which AI agents does it work with?
Any of them. Muni is built for vibe coding and types clean text into any app on your Mac — Claude Code, Cursor, your editor, your browser, anywhere your cursor is.
